Our story

Black Sails was formed in 2010 by black sailors from the Southern California areas. Black Sails was founded by Corey McCoy, as a way for African Americans to learn and share the art of sailing in an environment conducive to our culture and outlook.
McCoy, together with fellow sailors, continue to guide the club as it grows. The members of Black Sails help keep it grounded in the history and heritage from which it began. It is the goal of the club members to help foster the friendships and personal goals of each other.
Black Sails is the organizational expression for the growing interest by blacks in the sport of sailing.
Black Sails has grown to include members from outside San Diego. Black Sails welcomes the interest of all sailors in the mission and activities of the club.
